Ultrasonix ships record number of ultrasound systems in 2011

Revenues grow more than 20% for third consecutive year

Richmond, BC – January 3, 2012– Sonix Medical Corporation, a privately-held manufacturer of diagnostic ultrasound imaging systems, shipped more than 1100  systems in 2011, bringing its total installed base to more than 5000 systems.

Between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2011, the company grew revenues by more than 20% for the third consecutive year.  To support its growth, Sonix invested in new sales, marketing and technical staff in Canada, the United States, Europe and China.  The company also expanded its footprint by opening offices in Phoenix, Arizona and Paris, France in 2011.

“We’re pleased with our consistent growth in the face of challenging global economic conditions,” said Don Wright, chief financial officer and chief operating officer of Sonix.  “We believe our success lies in delivering innovative products with unique features for a competitive price.  We have also assembled the right team of people who are dedicated to helping our customers improve patient care.”

Sonix recorded highest growth in Europe and the Middle East, which accounts for 25% of its revenues.  The company’s research division, which sells to universities and research institutes, brought in 22% of its revenues.

“Our roots are in the research community and it remains an important part of our business,” said Laurent Pelissier, Sonix founder and chief executive officer. “We maintain strong ties with researchers who use our systems so that we can continue to bring ultrasound innovation from the preclinical and clinical research world to our clinical customers. We’re proud to say that 50% of ultrasound research conducted globally is done on our systems.”
